Prep Your ❤️
Next week we start the book of Hosea. While you may think it’s a seemingly strange book of whoredom, it will change you. How do I know? Because God said so.
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)
Before we jump into the next book, I think we need to breathe. Often, I can knock something off my list and then rush onto the next without even pausing. I’m working on this. By nature, I’m fast-paced, ambitious, and love significant challenges. I’m learning to sit. I’m learning to be still. And I’m inviting you to do the same.
Take a week and intentionally prepare your heart. I’ve decided to fast for 24 hours. Yes, I’m going to go without coffee. I know it’s crazy (for me, at least). However, more than I want the soothing warmth of caffeine on a cold morning, I want to know Jesus. To fast is to suffer, and to suffer is to identify with Christ.
Below are several ideas to consider as you prepare your heart for what God has in store for you. You don’t need to do them all (FYI: I’m speaking to the over-achievers who are reading this), but perhaps one or two of these might resonate with you:
Read through last week’s Knowing Your Purpose post.
Spend 5 minutes and write down what you’re thankful for in this season.
Pray Ephesians 1:17-21 over yourself, your family, or a friend.
Fast from food, media, caffeine, or the like for a while.
Turn your phone off and intercede for someone on your heart.
Journal a prayer to God and ask Him to grant you inner strength.
